Romanzo criminale opera debuts at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino

The opera adaptation of 'Romanzo criminale', based on the famous story of the Banda della Magliana, received an enthusiastic reception during its premiere at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence. The performance concluded with eight minutes of applause and ovations for composer and conductor Nicola Piovani and writer Giancarlo De Cataldo, who authored both the original novel and the libretto.

Directed by Massimo Popolizio, the production sought to establish an independent theatrical dimension distinct from previous film and television iterations of the story. The narrative centers on the character Patrizia, portrayed by soprano Vanessa Goikoetxea, who serves as the narrator within the criminal underworld. The production featured the Maggio Orchestra and Chorus, with a cast including Anthony Ciaramitaro and Matteo Desole.
