Rome: 24-year-old fatally shot in Tor Sapienza courtyard

A 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the courtyard of a public housing complex in Tor Sapienza, a suburb in eastern Rome. The victim, a Rome native, was found with a severe gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Emergency responders from Ares 118 transported the young man to Policlinico Casilino in critical condition. Despite emergency surgery and efforts to revive him following multiple cardiac arrests, he passed away at the hospital. Investigators believe the victim was struck by a single projectile, likely from a handgun.

The alarm was raised around 3:00 PM by an individual who identified himself as a friend of the victim. The investigation, initially handled by the Prenestino police station and the General Prevention and Public Rescue office, has been taken over by the Squadra Mobile. Authorities are currently questioning witnesses and the individual who called emergency services to determine the motive and identify the shooter.
