Rome allocates 1.6 million euros for Piazza di Spagna redevelopment

Roma Capitale has allocated 1.6 million euros for a major urban redevelopment project in the Tridente area, specifically targeting the Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Mignanelli, and Via di Propaganda sectors. The project aims to reorganize public spaces, enhance pedestrian accessibility, and protect historical monuments by Bernini and Borromini.

Key interventions include expanding the pedestrian zone in Piazza di Spagna between the Column of the Immaculate Conception and the Palazzo di Propaganda Fide. Piazza Mignanelli will be fully pedestrianized, closing it entirely to vehicular traffic. In Via di Propaganda, the roadway will be narrowed to 3.90 meters to allow for significantly wider sidewalks.

The works, which include extraordinary maintenance of the cobblestone paving and the installation of historical bollards, are scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027. The plan also includes new raised pedestrian crossings to ensure barrier-free access and the implementation of 'Sospas' technology for monitoring commercial loading and unloading zones.
