Rome and surrounding province hit by multiple wildfires

Multiple wildfires broke out across Rome and its surrounding province on Thursday, August 20, involving vegetation and agricultural land. Firefighters and Civil Protection volunteers worked for several hours to contain the blazes.

A significant fire occurred in the via Falcognana area near the border of Rome and Marino, destroying several hectares of vegetation, trees, and farmland. While the fire caused heavy environmental damage, emergency crews successfully prevented the flames from reaching nearby rural homes. This area had reportedly been affected by fires in recent days.

Other notable incidents included smoke affecting the Metro B railway line between the Garbatella and San Paolo stations. In the Monte Ciocci area near Valle Aurelia, a man reportedly set fire to brush near a petrol station, but firefighters prevented the flames from reaching the fuel facility. Additional fires were reported in the provinces of Capena, Monte Compatri, Velletri, and Ciampino.
