Rome approves 2 million euro loan for Cinema Apollo asbestos removal

The Rome City Council has unanimously approved a 2.015 million euro loan to address safety concerns at the former Cinema Apollo in the Esquilino district. The funds are specifically designated for the removal of the existing asbestos-cement roof covering, its temporary replacement, and the repair of water infiltrations that have affected neighboring properties.

The project, which has been part of municipal programming since 2020, will be financed through a loan with payments scheduled for 2027 and 2028. While the funding covers essential safety and structural repairs, it does not include provisions for the building's planned transformation into a cultural center.
