Rome authorities fine illegal hotels near Termini Station

Authorities in Rome have uncovered four illegal hospitality structures operating near the Termini Station area. The investigation, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza, resulted in administrative sanctions exceeding 120,000 euros.

Three of the properties were registered as guesthouses but violated Lazio Region regulations by operating with eight rooms each, exceeding the legal limit of six. These properties also failed to display the required National Identification Code (CIN) on-site or on online booking platforms.

A fourth property, registered as a simple tourist rental, was found to be operating as a medium-sized hotel. This facility featured 13 rooms and 34 beds, offering 24-hour reception services, daily linen changes, and food and beverage services. The operator faced charges related to structural tax evasion, including the failure to open a VAT number, lack of mandatory accounting records, and absence of electronic transaction reporting. Additionally, inspectors identified 15 extra beds in two other nearby structures that exceeded their authorized capacity.
