Rai news crew targeted by gunshots and threats in Calabria

A Rai news crew filming a report for the program ‘La Vita in Diretta’ was targeted by intimidation in Botricello, Calabria. Journalist Giuseppe Di Tommaso and videomaker Antonio Caligione were working on a segment regarding the Salvatore Giglio case, involving the disappearance of Giglio and the subsequent arrest of his ex-wife and son for his alleged murder.

According to reports from the Cdr del Daytime Rai and the Usigrai union, the crew heard two gunshots fired into the air while finishing their report. Shortly after, individuals in a speeding vehicle directed insults and threats at the journalists, ordering them to leave the area. Fearing the situation would escalate, the crew retreated to their vehicle to escape.

Journalist Giuseppe Di Tommaso described the event as a ‘particularly difficult day’ but expressed a continued commitment to reporting the truth. Various journalist unions and Rai have condemned the incident, calling for a full investigation to identify those responsible and ensure the safety of media professionals working in the region.
