Rome building explosion occurs during wasp nest removal

An explosion occurred on the third floor of a building in the Collatino district of Rome during a specialized company's attempt to remove a wasp nest. The blast caused masonry to collapse onto the street, damaging two vehicles and forcing local businesses to close for the day.

One 47-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site. Italgas stated that the gas network was not involved in the incident. According to the company, the explosion was likely caused by the use of gas canisters during the pest control operation, which allowed contents to infiltrate the building's wall cavities, triggering the collapse. Local police are investigating the cause.
