Rome: Carabinieri rescue elderly man from apartment fire

Three Carabinieri officers from the Roma IV Miglio Appio station rescued an 85-year-old disabled man from an apartment fire in Rome. While patrolling via al Quarto Miglio, the officers noticed thick black smoke emanating from a first-floor balcony.

Acting quickly before emergency services arrived, the officers entered the building and, with the help of local residents, carried the bedridden man to safety. The fire, which was contained to the balcony area, is believed to have been caused accidentally by a lighter left on a sofa in the sun.

While the elderly man was uninjured, two of the three female officers were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, receiving prognoses of one and four days respectively. Firefighters arrived shortly after to extinguish the flames.
