Rome celebrates Tiber River with floral tribute and rowing event

The Tiber River in Rome was decorated with 5,000 flowers during an event organized by the association Tevere Day APS. Artisan Fabio Lijoi provided the flowers, which were placed on six historic pedestrian bridges, including Ponte Milvio and Ponte Sant’Angelo, as a symbolic gesture of appreciation for the river.

The event, now in its eighth edition, included the Vogalonga Tiberina, a rowing race involving over 80 crews traveling from Parco Tiberis toward the ancient port of Ostia. Local officials and artists participated in the ceremony, which featured biodegradable floral displays.

Following the river's UNESCO recognition in 2024, the Tevere Day APS association has proposed establishing the second Saturday of October as an official city day dedicated to the Tiber to further integrate the river into Rome's daily urban life.
