Rome considers scooter restrictions in Via Roma pedestrian zone

Authorities in Rome are debating new restrictions for electric scooters and bicycles following reports of unsafe riding in the city's main pedestrian artery, Via Roma. Pedestrians and tourists have reported incidents of riders weaving through crowds without helmets or license plates.

While the city's redevelopment project, funded by Pn Metro, aims to promote sustainable mobility and must remain accessible to bicycles, officials are conducting technical and legal reviews. Assessors Chiara Foglietta and Marco Porcedda indicated they are investigating the possibility of limiting or completely banning scooter transit through Via Roma to ensure pedestrian safety.
