Mark Antony Samson sentenced to life imprisonment for Ilaria Sula murder

The Third Court of Assizes in Rome has sentenced 24-year-old Mark Antony Samson to life imprisonment for the murder of his former girlfriend, 22-year-old Ilaria Sula. The verdict, delivered at the Rebibbia prison complex, confirms the prosecution's findings that the crime was premeditated and involved the concealment of a corpse.

Sula, a statistics student at La Sapienza University, was killed on March 25, 2025, in an apartment in Rome's Africano neighborhood. Following the attack, Samson placed her body in a suitcase and discarded it in a ravine in the Capranica Prenestina area, where it was discovered on April 2.

During the trial, prosecutors described the act as a cold-blooded massacre, noting that Samson had not shown true remorse. While the defense argued the killing was an impulsive act driven by tension, the court recognized aggravating factors including premeditation, futilie motives, and the victim's affective relationship with the defendant.

Following the sentence, Ilaria's parents, Flamur and Gezime Sula, expressed that while justice had been served, the family would continue to live with the true life sentence of their loss. Gezime Sula also issued an appeal to young people to respect women.
