Rome hosts mobility events focusing on biofuels and cycling
The Eternal City Moto Show has launched its tenth edition at the Gazometro in Rome, focusing on the future of mobility and decarbonization. During an inaugural conference, Environment Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin and Enilive CEO Stefano Ballista discussed the role of biofuels in the energy transition. Minister Fratin emphasized that while electric mobility is the future, biofuels will play a key role in the transition process. Ballista highlighted HVO Diesel as a concrete solution that can reduce emissions by approximately 80% without requiring engine or infrastructure modifications.
Simultaneously, data from Legambiente’s ‘Giretto d’Italia’ campaign highlights significant cycling activity in Rome. A monitoring initiative across 15 bike lanes recorded 3,180 cyclists in a two-hour morning window, with electric bikes slightly outnumbering traditional ones. The Via Prenestina bike lane saw the highest usage, with one cyclist passing every 13 seconds. However, Legambiente noted that many of these routes, including Via Prenestina, suffer from poor infrastructure and safety hazards.
In a separate initiative, the ‘Bike to Rome’ tour has begun, traveling 850 kilometers from Turin to Rome. The project aims to collect proposals regarding Renewable Energy Communities (CER) to present to the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security.
