Rome expands nursery school network and digital services

Rome is expanding its municipal nursery school network, with enrollments expected to exceed 20,000 children aged zero to three. The city is inaugurating new eco-friendly facilities in Bravetta, Fantabosco, and Val Cannuta, with additional sites planned for completion between late 2026 and early 2027. This expansion, supported by PNRR resources, includes the hiring of 106 new educators by the end of the year.

To modernize management, the city is launching ‘EduRoma’, a digital diary for families and schools to handle attendance and communications via smartphone. Tuition rates remain frozen, with costs ranging from a maximum of 518 euros for higher-income families to full free access for vulnerable families with an ISEE below 5,000 euros.

On a national level, the Associazione Italiana Editori (AIE) has opened registrations for its ‘#ioleggoperché’ initiative to all Italian nursery schools. Supported by Fondazione Cariplo, the program allows nurseries to partner with local bookstores to facilitate book donations for school libraries. This expansion follows successful pilot projects in Lombardy and aims to support early childhood literacy through a national donation campaign scheduled for November 2026.
