Rome: Four historic pine trees cut down in Fleming district

Four historic pine trees, estimated to be 75 years old, were cut down in Piazza Monteleone di Spoleto in the Fleming area of Rome. The removal took place at dawn during the Ferragosto holiday period.

The local association CURAA (Cittadini Uniti per Roma i suoi Alberi e Abitanti) has strongly protested the action, claiming the trees were healthy and could have been preserved through alternative maintenance methods. The association had previously issued a formal warning and submitted alternative proposals to Municipio XV to prevent the felling, but these were not implemented.

Jacopa Stinchelli, president of CURAA, criticized the city's management of green spaces, suggesting that recent changes in the Department of Environmental Protection have not altered destructive methods. The association is currently evaluating legal action in response to the incident.
