Estonia proposes tax IDs for AI agents as Europe debates AI regulation
Estonia plans to assign tax identification numbers to artificial‑intelligence agents, a move aimed at clarifying who is responsible when AI systems act on behalf of people or companies. Premier Kristen Michal said that as AI takes on more digital tasks, “it must be clear who acts for whom, with what rights and who is accountable.”
In Rome, a seminar organized by Techno Polis and LeitAI on 3 July will examine how the European Audiovisual Media Services Directive should be updated for the AI era. Participants will discuss balancing innovation, pluralism and market competitiveness while protecting minors and creator rights.
Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, speaking at a separate dialogue on the future of humanity, emphasized that technological advances such as AI and genetic engineering must be governed by a strong ethical conscience to preserve human dignity and prevent reducing people to mere data or algorithms.
