Rome hosts European Conference of Speakers of Parliament

The European Conference of Speakers of Parliament, co-organized by the Italian Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, took place in Rome. The summit brought together dozens of parliamentary leaders to discuss threats to democracy, the challenges of artificial intelligence, and the renewal of a rules-based international order.

Slovenian National Assembly President Zoran Stevanović emphasized the necessity of reforming the international order to adapt to modern challenges. He argued that double standards undermine the credibility of international law and called for a multilateralism that is more effective, inclusive, and democratically legitimate, ensuring that the same rules apply to all nations, including the most powerful.

Marinko Čavara, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering dialogue and understanding. Regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina, he stressed the importance of respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement, constitutional principles, and the equality of all constituent peoples, noting that lasting political solutions require continuous dialogue and agreement.
