Rome hosts photography exhibition protesting US blockade of Cuba

An exhibition titled ‘Patria o Muerte - Voces de una isla que resiste’ has opened at the Santa Rita hall in Rome. Created by Italian artist Valerio Bispuri, the photography showcase features 34 images captured in Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and other eastern regions during June and July.

The exhibition serves as a critique of the United States' economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba. Jorge Luis Cepero, Cuba's ambassador to Italy, stated that the photographs depict a daily life shaped by the intensification of the blockade, noting the country's deterioration and energy problems. Massimiliano Smeriglio, a culture advisor for Roma Capitale, described the Washington policy toward the island as a ‘medieval siege.’

Supported by Roma Capitale, Tempi Moderni, and Zètema Progetto Cultura, the exhibition is open to the public until September 27. The title is inspired by the historical slogan immortalized by Fidel Castro.
