Rome fencing championships record participation as Forlivese club wins historic bronze

The 2026 Italian Fencing Championships in Rome attracted a record 1,300 athletes and awarded 44 national titles across senior, junior and paralympic categories. The event generated an estimated €1.5 million economic impact and received extensive TV coverage on Rai Sport.

Club Circolo Schermistico Forlivese made history by securing the federation’s first-ever senior bronze in women’s épée, won by Mariachiara Testa. The club also earned three junior podiums and debuted in the Serie A1 women’s team competition, finishing seventh. Other notable results included bronze medals for Nicolò Sonnessa and Leonardo Cortini in senior men’s sabre.

Paralympic épée saw Francesca Colagrande of Club Scherma L’Aquila claim bronze, describing the experience as “a great emotion” and thanking her coach and club for support. The championships positioned Rome as a central hub for Italian fencing ahead of the 2028 World Cadets and Juniors event.
