Rome implements zero tolerance for illegal parking in historic center

The Local Police Command in Rome has announced a ‘zero tolerance’ policy regarding irregular parking and illegal loading/unloading operations within the city's historic center. The initiative aims to clear streets and sidewalks through reinforced controls and rapid sanctions.

However, the crackdown has highlighted a conflict between local enforcement and the existing legal framework. Logistics companies report increased delays, longer routes, and higher costs due to limited parking and reduced stopping times. While residents generally support the focus on pedestrian mobility, they have noted a lack of clearly marked loading zones.

Furthermore, administrative court (TAR) rulings have previously suspended or limited certain municipal ordinances regarding access restrictions and delivery hours. This has created operational ambiguity for police officers, who are tasked with enforcing regulations that may be subject to judicial challenges.
