Italy reports rise in domestic violence and various criminal incidents

Italy is seeing a rise in reported violence and various criminal incidents across the country. In Lombardy, calls to the 1522 anti-violence helpline increased from 2,318 in 2023 to 3,537 in 2025, with psychological violence being the most frequent report. Similarly, in Tuscany, the 112 emergency center receives approximately 500 calls per month regarding violence, 95% of which come from women.

Several domestic violence cases have been reported, including a 33-year-old woman arrested in Siniscola for threatening her mother with knives, a 40-year-old man arrested in Viareggio for assaulting his partner in a hotel, and a man in Perugia placed under house arrest for stalking and assaulting an ex-partner. In Giugliano, a father reportedly attacked his ex-partner despite his 6-year-old son's attempts to intervene.

Incidents involving law enforcement have also surfaced. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticized the judicial decision to release a man shortly after he assaulted two police officers in Rome. In Modena, a Greek truck driver was arrested at an A1 toll booth after assaulting and spitting on officers. Additionally, a 13-year-old girl in Milan was targeted with racist insults and threats following a dispute with a peer.
