Rome offers free Ferragosto festivities and outdoor cinema in August

Rome’s summer calendar features a range of free public events. On August 15, the city’s theme parks—including Cinecittà World’s Aqua World, Roma World’s ancient‑Roman village, and other attractions—host Ferragosto celebrations with pool parties, live DJs, roller‑coaster shows and historic performances such as gladiator displays and falconry. The festivities are designed for families and young visitors seeking a cool escape from the heat.

Earlier in the month, on August 5, the city provides two free outdoor film screenings. At Villa Borghese, the open‑air Teatro Ettore Scola presents the animated feature *Gatta Cenerentola*, part of the “Le vie dell’acqua” series organized by Fondazione Cinema per Roma. Simultaneously, Parco Andrea Campagna in the Monti Tiburtini area screens David Cronenberg’s 1983 sci‑fi horror *Videodrome*, with organizers advising attendees to bring seating. Both events are open to the public without charge, encouraging residents and tourists to enjoy cultural programming under the summer sky.
