Rome police arrest man for attempted kidnapping of child

Police in Rome have arrested a 47-year-old Nigerian man following an attempted kidnapping of a five-year-old child in the Tor Sapienza district. The incident occurred while the child was walking with his aunt, who managed to prevent the abduction through quick reflexes.

The suspect, described as a homeless individual without a residence permit, was apprehended four days after the event. The arrest was made possible after the child's father recognized the man based on descriptions provided by the aunt and alerted authorities. The suspect attempted to flee on a public bus but was intercepted by police.

The perpetrator faces charges of attempted aggravated kidnapping. The incident has heightened local concerns regarding security and urban decay in the Tor Sapienza area.
