Rome police evict 60 Sinti squatters from former pharmaceutical plant in San Basilio

Around 60 people of Sinti origin occupied an abandoned former pharmaceutical building on via Gerani in the San Basilio district of Rome during the night. Police received a tip, arrived in the early morning and cleared the structure, returning it to the bankruptcy curators responsible for securing the site.

The eviction followed a recent police operation at a nearby building on via Pieve Torina, where many of the same occupants had been removed days earlier. During that earlier clearance, authorities also discovered and removed 46 LPG cylinders from the premises.

The building, long vacant and under bankruptcy administration, will now be secured by the appointed curators after the police intervention.
