Prati shooting suspect confesses to firing air rifle in Rome
Edoardo Ciardiello Crescimanno, a 50-year-old man, has confessed to the Carabinieri that he was firing an air rifle from his residence in Rome's Prati district for amusement. The shootings, which targeted pedestrians on Via della Giuliana, have caused significant alarm in the neighborhood.
One of the victims, journalist and writer Cristina Stillitano, was struck in the arm and required surgery. Another woman, accountant Angela Perrone, was also hit in the calf during a separate incident. Investigators believe the suspect may be linked to at least seven shooting incidents in the area.
Authorities identified Crescimanno by cross-referencing air rifle purchase records from local gun shops. Following his confession, police seized an air rifle from his home. While he has been charged with injury, he remains at liberty, a decision that has caused distress among local residents and victims.
