Rome police prevent suicide attempt in Santa Croce district

On the morning of September 9, 2026, local police in Rome prevented a suicide attempt by a woman approximately 25 to 28 years old in the Santa Croce in Gerusalemme area. The woman had climbed onto a fifth-floor ledge of a building, threatening to jump.

Officers from the Polizia Locale's Emergency Public Security Unit arrived on the scene, cordoned off the area, and engaged in prolonged verbal negotiations to de-escalate the situation. Working alongside the Esquilino Police Station and the Fire Department, authorities eventually gained entry to the apartment. The woman was secured, sedated, and transported to San Giovanni Hospital under a red code.

The local police union (SULPL) commented on the incident, praising the professionalism of the officers while using the event to advocate for better recognition and protections for local police workers.
