Rome political figures join Sinistra Italiana to support Gualtieri
Claudia Pratelli, the assessor for School and Labor, and Giovanni Caudo, president of the special PNRR commission, have joined the Sinistra Italiana party. This move is part of a strategic effort to consolidate the progressive area in Rome ahead of the 2027 municipal elections.
The transition represents a convergence between Sinistra Italiana and the Roma Futura movement, which Pratelli and Caudo were previously associated with. The political alignment aims to strengthen support for Mayor Roberto Gualtieri’s potential second term by creating a more unified progressive front.
According to Caudo, the goal is to compact the political field rather than divide it. While the move bolsters the left flank of the current coalition, it also raises questions regarding whether the alliance can maintain a distinct political identity while supporting the incumbent administration.
