Rome Prefect Lamberto Giannini calls for truth to combat disinformation

Lamberto Giannini, the Prefect of Rome, has stated that disinformation must be combated with the truth to provide citizens with a sense of security. Speaking at the “Il Coraggio della Pace” meeting, Giannini highlighted various forms of disinformation, including those that impact financial markets and those that manipulate urban reality. He noted that social media is often used to propagate false news or staged disorder specifically to increase views.

The issue of disinformation extends beyond entirely fabricated news to more subtle forms of deception. This includes presenting real facts, photographs, or statements without proper context, which can fundamentally alter their meaning. Experts suggest that the speed of modern information consumption often leads people to rely on headlines and images without verifying sources, allowing misinterpreted news to persist.
