Rome prosecutors seek life sentence for Francis Kaufmann
Rome prosecutors have requested a life sentence with three years of daytime isolation for Francis Kaufmann, an American citizen accused of the double murder of his partner, Anastasia Trofimova, and their daughter, Andromeda. The victims were found dead in Villa Pamphili on June 7 of last year.
During the hearing at the First Court of Assize, prosecutor Antonio Verdi described Kaufmann as “cold, lucid, manipulative, [and] a pathological narcissist,” asserting that he remains fully capable of understanding his actions. The prosecution has charged Kaufmann with aggravated double homicide—citing motives described as futile and vile, as well as the victims' diminished defense and their familial relationship—alongside the concealment of a corpse.
The investigation revealed that the couple’s relationship began in Malta. Prosecutors alleged that after killing Trofimova, Kaufmann viewed his infant daughter as a “burden” and decided to kill her as well before abandoning the bodies in the park.
