Rome sports club accused of 240,000 euro water theft
The Guardia di Finanza has uncovered a significant water theft scheme at the Helios Sports Club in Ostia Antica, Rome. During a routine tax audit, officials noticed discrepancies between the facility's water supply documentation and the scale of its services, which include swimming pools, showers, irrigation, and restaurant facilities.
Technical inspections conducted alongside specialists from the municipal water company, Acea, revealed that the complex was being supplied via a water meter that had been formally decommissioned years ago. The illegal connection had reportedly been in use since 2020, resulting in an estimated unpaid water cost of approximately 240,000 euros.
The legal representative of the limited liability company managing the sports center has been reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rome and faces charges of aggravated theft.
