Rome to host conference on library lending and author rights

The Federazione Unitaria Italiana Scrittori (FUIS), in collaboration with Federintermedia, will host a conference in Rome on September 23 and 24, 2026, titled ‘Il Prestito Bibliotecario in Italia, in Europa, nel Mondo’. The event focuses on research regarding library lending in Italy, Europe, and globally.

The research, titled ‘La lettura in biblioteca anni 2024 e 2025’, is directed by Professor Giovanni Solimine of La Sapienza Università di Roma and conducted by the Fondazione Bellonci. The study surveyed 7,000 libraries and 101 library consortia, recording approximately 20 million loans for both 2024 and 2025.

A primary goal of the initiative is to identify authors, book titles, and publishers to facilitate an analytical distribution of intellectual property royalties. Additionally, the project aims to establish a system of reciprocity for Italian authors' works in European and international libraries.
