Rome to host Esercito 1659 Drone Challenge in September

The ‘Esercito 1659 Drone Challenge’ will take place on September 19 and 20 at the Pietro Giannattasio Military Hippodrome in Tor di Quinto, Rome. This event is the first sporting competition of its kind to bring together elite civilian and military First Person View (FPV) drone pilots.

Organized by the Italian Ministry of Defence, Difesa Servizi S.p.A., and the Italian Army, the event is supported by the Lazio Region and CONI. It aims to showcase the values of the Italian Armed Forces within the technological innovation ecosystem.

The competition features two main categories: a PRO competition, which serves as the fourth stage of the 2026 Italian Drone Championship, and an OPEN competition accessible to all. The event will include 10 elite PRO pilots and 32 OPEN category pilots, consisting of 16 civilians and 16 military personnel.
