Rome to host Luchino Visconti exhibition at Castel Sant’Angelo

The Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome will host an exhibition titled “Luchino Visconti e la messa in scena della storia” from October 17 to November 29, 2026. The event commemorates the 120th anniversary of the director's birth and the 50th anniversary of his death.

The exhibition aims to explore Visconti's creative process, specifically focusing on the intellectual and visual construction of his celebrated film, “Il Gattopardo”. It seeks to examine his lasting impact on Italian cinema, theater, and opera.

While much of the filming for “Il Gattopardo” took place in Sicily, including locations such as Palermo, Ciminna, and Cefalù, some interior scenes were reconstructed in Ariccia near Rome.
