Rome to host new Mario Sironi museum and study center

A new museum and study center dedicated to Mario Sironi, one of Italy’s most significant 20th-century artists, is scheduled to open in Rome during the first half of 2027. The project, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Culture, will be located within the Casa Madre dei Mutilati e Invalidi di Guerra in Piazza Adriana, near Castel Sant’Angelo.

The facility will house a permanent collection including paintings, drawings, and sketches, supplemented by a digital archive for researchers. The initial collection will consist of 30 works acquired from the Sironi Archive in Rome, with an additional 90 works to be provided through a free loan agreement.

Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli described the project as a central achievement of his mandate, noting Sironi’s ability to express the contradictions of the 20th century through painting, architecture, and monumental arts. The site, designed by Marcello Piacentini, already contains two frescoes by Sironi. The center aims to serve as an intellectual hub and a space for social participation, particularly for younger generations.
