Rome to host ‘The Power of the Classics’ lecture series

A new lecture series titled ‘The Power of the Classics’ (Il potere dei classici) will be held at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome from November 15, 2026, to April 18, 2027. The series, titled ‘Lezioni di Storia’, is an initiative by Editori Laterza in co-production with the Fondazione Musica per Roma.

The program consists of nine meetings centered on nine historical texts that have shaped human thought and events. The lectures aim to explore how historical contexts influenced these works and how the works, in turn, altered history.

Scheduled speakers and topics include: - Gennaro Carillo on Plato’s ‘Republic’ (November 15, 2026). - Francesca Cenerini on Tacitus’ ‘Annals’, focusing on power and gender (November 29, 2026). - Maurizio Viroli on Niccolò Machiavelli’s ‘The Prince’ (December 13, 2026). - Massimo Bucciantini on Galileo Galilei’s ‘Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems’ (January 17, 2027). - Lisa Roscioni on Alessandro Manzoni’s ‘The Betrothed’ (January 31, 2027).
