Rome to transform Piazza di Spagna into pedestrian zone with 1.6 million euro investment
Rome is launching a 1.6 million euro urban redesign project to transform the Piazza di Spagna area into a pedestrian-friendly zone. The initiative aims to reorganize public spaces in one of the city's most visited locations, enhancing walkability and preserving the area's monumental character.
The project will extend the vehicle-free zone to encompass the space between the Colonna dell'Immacolata Concezione and the facade of the Palazzo di Propaganda Fide. Additionally, the plan includes the complete conversion of Piazza Mignanelli into a pedestrian zone and improvements to Via di Propaganda.
Infrastructure upgrades will feature the installation of Sampietrini curbs with travertine edging to prevent unauthorized parking, the maintenance of Sampietrini paving, and the widening of sidewalks using basalt slabs and granite borders. The works are expected to be completed by the first half of 2027.
