Rome launches comprehensive safety and mobility programs for nightlife, parking, traffic and housing

The Rome police headquarters (Questura) unveiled a new communication campaign, “La sicurezza inizia da una scelta,” in partnership with SILB/FIPE and Assointrattenimento. The initiative targets young people and nightlife venue operators, promoting responsible behaviour and the idea that personal choices affect public safety.

The city’s Smart On‑Street Parking System (Sospas) entered its operational phase with about 2,000 sensor‑equipped parking spirals active in six districts – Ripa, Campitelli, San Saba, Testaccio, Ostiense and Trastevere – representing 23 % of the planned network. The platform aggregates data from meters, payment apps, car‑sharing, charging stations and resident permits, aiming to curb illegal parking, reduce traffic congestion and improve service for drivers. Full deployment of over 7,500 intelligent bays is scheduled for mid‑2027.

An extraordinary traffic‑control plan on the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) began in May. Police increased daily patrols, focusing on illegal use of emergency lanes, phone use while driving and seat‑belt compliance. The operation recorded roughly 120 lane‑misuse violations, 51 phone‑use fines, the withdrawal of about 160 driver licences and 590 roadside assistance calls.

Rome Capitale also launched the Agenzia Sociale per l’Abitare Capitolina (Asac), a public‑private service involving Caritas Rome and nine other NGOs. The agency matches landlords with tenants in the “grey zone” – workers, young families and low‑income households – offering mediation, guarantees and information on affordable‑rent contracts.

In the nearby town of Genzano, the local police command approved a new contract with Sisas S.p.A. to supply updated vertical road signs and signalling devices, funded by revenues from traffic‑code fines. The upgrade aims to improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and police officers on municipal streets.
