Rome woman to face trial for defamation against Ciontoli family

A 43-year-old woman from Rome is facing trial for aggravated defamation after posting a video on Facebook containing insults and threats against the Ciontoli family. The family was previously involved in the high-profile case regarding the death of 21-year-old Marco Vannini in Ladispoli in 2015.

The video was recorded following a report by the television program “Le Iene,” which provided further details on the Vannini case. In the footage, the woman directed specific threats toward Antonio Ciontoli, his wife Maria Pezzillo, and their children, Martina and Federico.

The Ciontoli family filed a formal complaint after viewing the video. The defendant is scheduled to appear before a judge on October 8. Defense attorneys Pietro and Gian Maria Nicotera have stated that the remarks were an emotional outburst following the television broadcast and lack actual intimidating efficacy or intent to carry out the threats.
