Rome ZTL goods delivery restrictions suspended by court

The TAR Lazio administrative court has suspended a new restricted traffic zone (ZTL) ordinance in Rome intended to regulate goods delivery. The ruling follows requests from postal couriers and food and beverage delivery companies to halt the experimental measures.

The original ordinance aimed to limit access for freight vehicles to the ZTL A1 and surrounding areas between 8:00 and 18:00, even for those with valid permits. While the Rome municipality maintains that the restrictions are necessary to improve livability in the historic center and manage increased tourist flows and construction, the court has ordered a suspension of the measure. A follow-up hearing to decide on the merits of the case is scheduled for September 23.
