Romelu Lukaku criticizes Napoli following transfer to Fenerbahçe

Romelu Lukaku has described his time at Napoli as “the worst year of my life” following his recent transfer to Fenerbahçe. The Belgian striker addressed his departure from the Italian club in interviews with Belgian media, alleging that he was subject to a boycott in Italy.

Lukaku dismissed claims regarding his lack of fitness, stating he is “100 per cent match fit” and suggesting that criticisms of his physical condition were part of a campaign to undermine him. His difficult period at Napoli was marked by a severe injury during a 2025 pre-season match, limited playing time, and disagreements regarding his rehabilitation process, which he preferred to conduct in Belgium.

Beyond professional challenges, Lukaku faced significant personal tragedy in 2025 with the death of his father, Roger. He also revealed that he and his brother were victims of extortion related to the repatriation of his father's body for the funeral.

Now at Fenerbahçe, Lukaku expressed his appreciation for the warm reception from Turkish fans and stated his intention to play at a high level through 2030, potentially returning to his home country to finish his career.
