Romelu Lukaku faces competition at Fenerbahçe after Napoli transfer

Romelu Lukaku's summer transfer from SSC Napoli to Fenerbahçe SK was driven by a desire to secure a starting role. Napoli reportedly accepted a transfer fee of approximately six to eight million euros—significantly lower than their initial ten million euro asking price—primarily to remove Lukaku's wages from their financial accounts.

Lukaku reportedly made personal sacrifices to facilitate the move to Istanbul, including waiving two million euros owed to him by Napoli and paying 150,000 euros of his own money. He chose Fenerbahçe over other interested clubs, such as Besiktas JK and AS Monaco, because they only offered loan deals, whereas Fenerbahçe agreed to a permanent transfer.

However, despite his intention to be the undisputed first-choice striker, Lukaku is facing competition from Vedat Muriqi. Muriqi's strong performance has threatened to push Lukaku into a substitute role, the very situation the Belgian striker sought to avoid when leaving Italy.
