Romelu Lukaku faces criticism after first Fenerbahçe start
Romelu Lukaku is facing increasing criticism in Turkey following his first start for Fenerbahçe in a 0-0 draw against Gaziantep FK. Despite joining the club this summer from Napoli for six million euros, the 33-year-old striker has yet to score in his first seven appearances.
Beyond the lack of goals, analysts have highlighted Lukaku’s struggle to impact the game physically. During his hour on the pitch, he recorded only ten successful passes and 23 touches. Most notably, he won only three out of nine duels, a statistic that drew sharp condemnation from journalist Emre Bol. Bol described the performance as ‘ridiculous’ given Lukaku’s physical profile, noting that opponents should feel as though they are ‘hitting a wall’ when contesting him.
Lukaku’s contract with Fenerbahçe runs until next summer with an option for an additional year. His current form raises questions regarding his role within the team and his upcoming international prospects.
