Romeo Malverde returns to wrestling after WWE release

Former WWE star Santos Escobar has returned to professional wrestling under a new identity, Romeo Malverde. His comeback took place on September 27 at the 5th International Lucha Libre Festival in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

Competing alongside Blue Demon Jr., Malverde faced Magno and Steven Juarez in a tag team match. This appearance marks his first match since March 14, following a period of inactivity caused by injuries. During his time away, he underwent two surgeries: one for a triceps injury in March and another for his ulnar nerve in April.

Malverde, who was released by WWE in April and became a free agent in July, stated that the new persona is a reflection of his personal experiences and background. He described the character as an underdog, combining elements of his identity as a trained actor and his desire to represent resilience in the face of adversity.
