Rome’s Parco Bonafede park set ablaze; city pledges to protect urban greenery

A portion of Parco Bonafede in Rome’s Municipio V was set on fire, damaging an area that had recently been part of an urban re‑forestation project financed by PNRR funds. The incident follows a series of reported vandalism acts in the city.

Municipal officials condemned the act. Assessors Pino Battaglia and Edoardo Annucci, together with councilor Marco Toti and the committee "Amici del Parco Bonafede", inspected the damage and said, “the damages are substantial and we can only condemn this firmly.” Vice‑mayor Pierluigi Sanna also voiced concern. Police and social‑service units have been mobilised to investigate and address the situation.

Rome’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to protect, rehabilitate and expand urban green spaces, continuing investments through the Department of Environmental Protection headed by Sabrina Alfonsi and the local municipalities.
