Rome's Tor di Valle Riverbank Set for Nature, Sport and Public Use

The council of Rome’s IX Municipio approved a unanimous resolution to protect the entire Tor di Valle river bend of the Tiber. The plan prioritises ecological preservation, turning the former hippodrome site into a public green space with cycling‑pedestrian routes, outdoor sports facilities and improved sustainable transport links. All political forces in the council backed the measure, which rejects high‑impact development and focuses on safeguarding the area’s riparian flora, fauna and hydro‑geological balance.

Implementation will involve coordination with local neighbourhood associations and relevant authorities to create accessible pathways, sport areas and social spaces, integrating the site into the broader strategic plan for the Tiber corridor.
