Romeu Zema confirms presidential bid and criticizes judicial censorship

Romeu Zema, the Novo party's candidate for the Brazilian presidency, has addressed his political trajectory and expressed concerns regarding judicial decisions in the country. Eduardo Ribeiro, president of the Novo party, confirmed that while there were inquiries regarding Zema running for the Senate in Minas Gerais, the party has officially chosen him to run for the presidency by acclamation.

During a business event in São Paulo, Zema criticized recent decisions by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, specifically regarding investigations into journalistic sources. Zema characterized the current climate as one of “censorship” and argued that such actions threaten freedom of expression and the democratic regime.

As part of his campaign platform, Zema pledged to implement a “moral and ethical shock” in Brazil, combat crime, and reduce government spending to help lower interest rates. He positioned his candidacy as a way to bring visibility to issues beyond the current primary political figures.
