Romeu Zema proposes social welfare reforms and OECD membership

Presidential candidate Romeu Zema has outlined key components of his government plan, focusing on social welfare reform and shifts in international diplomacy.

On the domestic front, Zema proposed the ‘Sócios do Brasil’ program, which involves a R$ 1,000 investment by the federal government into variable income funds for every Brazilian citizen at birth. These funds would be locked until the individual reaches 18 years of age to encourage financial education and long-term wealth building. Additionally, he proposed a R$ 5,000 bonus for Bolsa Família beneficiaries who transition into formal employment.

Regarding foreign policy, Zema’s platform includes withdrawing Brazil from the BRICS bloc through diplomatic means while maintaining pragmatic commercial relations. He aims to instead pursue membership in the OECD, advocating for the institutional and economic reforms required to join the group, such as tax standardization and the reduction of trade barriers.
