Neptun Deep project expects first gas production in early 2027

OMV Petrom and Romgaz, the joint operators of the Neptun Deep offshore project in the Black Sea, have announced that the first gas production is expected to enter the National Transmission System in the first half of 2027. This updated timeline provides a more precise window than previous general estimates for 2027.

The project is currently progressing according to plan following the successful installation of the Neptun Alpha shallow-water production platform. Key infrastructure developments, including the offshore pipeline and the completion of seven out of ten production wells, are nearing finalization. Once the gas reaches the national system, the project will enter a phase of gradual production ramp-up and operational testing, with a production plateau expected by the end of the third quarter of 2027.

With an estimated budget of approximately 4 billion euros, the Neptun Deep project is expected to deliver around 8 billion cubic meters of gas per year at full capacity. Officials stated that the project is vital for strengthening Romania’s energy security and positioning the country as a leading natural gas producer within the European Union.
