Romita teenager's organ donation saves five lives

José Cruz Jaramillo Díaz, a 14-year-old student from Romita, Guanajuato, known affectionately as ‘Crucito’, passed away following an accident. His family chose to donate his organs, saving the lives of five children on transplant waiting lists.

Following the activation of ‘Código Vida’ at the Hospital de la Gente in León, the organs were distributed to several medical institutions. His heart was transported by air to the Instituto Nacional de Cardiología Ignacio Chávez in Mexico City, while his lungs were sent to the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán. One kidney was sent to the Hospital de Especialidades Pediátrico in León, and the other to the Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez in Mexico City.

The Guanajuato Health Secretary, Gabriel Cortés Alcalá, praised the family’s decision as an act of love and solidarity that provides new hope to multiple families.
