Ron Howard's donated bronze chair in Burbank causes scalding heat

A bronze Victorian-style “kissing chair” donated by director Ron Howard and his wife, Cheryl, to Johnny Carson Park in Burbank has become a safety concern due to extreme heat. The statue, valued at approximately $88,440, was donated last year to commemorate the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary and to celebrate the location where they originally dated.

Local resident and movie location scout Nick Carr reported that the chair’s placement in direct sunlight causes the bronze surface to reach scalding temperatures. Despite a warning sign stating “Surface may be hot,” Carr noted that visitors frequently ignore the notice and experience painful burns. Carr has urged Burbank officials to address the placement of the monument to ensure it can be used safely by couples as intended.
